Something happened on my birthday in July. This year I threw myself a party. You know you can do that don’t you? Don’t wait for someone to throw you one…do it yourself and be fab!
It was a magical midsummer night’s eve. An adult version of a kids’ party: a long table studded with flowers in tiny vases, flickering votives, sequins tossed about, streamers winding in amongst the flowers and candles, games with prizes and party favors. Last evening, the television series The Good Wife ended. It has been running for seven years. That’s longer than many relationships.
I thought the writers did a splendid job with the finale which is always a slippery slope. No happily ever after. We did get a bit of fantasy and romance, smacked down with reality. It reflected the uncertainty of life perfectly: everything is up in the air, change or die, and life goes on.

When I was young…the future was the happy Jetsons, a popular TV cartoon, a family flitting about outer space and enjoying a futuristic version of the 1950’s good life. There’s the rub: it was a 50’s idea of the future: a bright place to be. We imagined new medical technogy, a disease free world, time saving devices (saving time for what?) and…flying cars.
